PRP

Additional Information

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) has been used for many years in both acute and chronic musculoskeletal injuries. You can now harness the power of Platelet Rich Plasma to rejuvenate your skin by regaining and retaining your youthful look, improve the appearance of acne scaring, stretch marks, surgical scars, fine lines, wrinkles and hair restoration.

How does it work?   The concept behind PRP is that healing starts when tissue is damaged, this inflammatory process activates platelets which release growth factors. By increasing the concentration of platelets we can increase the regeneration and repair rate.  PRP is also the latest innovation for Hair Restoration for both men and women.  PRP for hair regrowth increases the blood supply to the follicle, increase the thickness of the hair, triggers and maintains the growth phase and decreases hair loss.

Am I a candidate for PRP for Skin Rejuvenation?  Almost everyone is a candidate, although there are exceptions.  PRP is not recommended if you have rosacea, eczema, psoriasis or other inflammatory skin conditions. A consultation is always required prior to starting this treatment.

Am I a candidate for PRP for Hair Loss? Both men and women experience hair loss over time for a variety of reasons. PRP has been shown to treat pattern hair loss (Androgenetic Alopecia) and spot hair loss (Alopecia Areata).  A consultation is required to assess your hair loss to determine if PRP will benefit you.

Does it hurt? A topical anesthetic is applied to the treatment area to ensure minimal if any discomfort.

How is the treatment performed? A small sample of your blood is drawn, this is then placed in a centrifuge where the platelets are separated to form the platelet rich plasma.  For skin rejuvenation the process is similar to micro-needling,  we use a Micropen to infuse the PRP into the treatment area.  For hair restoration the PRP is injected into the scalp using tiny needles and with the use of a topical anaesthetic there is minimal if any discomfort.

How many treatments are required?  For best result for skin rejuvenation a package of 3 treatments is recommended, each client is different and this may vary depending on your expectations. Typically for hair loss an initial treatment of 3 is necessary about 4-5 weeks apart.  After the initial hair loss treatment maintenance is recommended anywhere from 6-12 months.
